Writing can be a lonely business, so when I moved to Guernsey six years ago I missed the face-to-face meetings and conversation with people who understood the ups and downs of a writing life. Therefore when the Society of Authors based in London (of which I’m a member) suggested people might like to form their own local group I jumped at the chance. I had done it before and I could do it again!
Originally I had formed a Writers’ Group when I lived in Rugby, Warwickshire. It’s called Rugby Cafe Writers. (on FB @RugbyCafeWriters) I’m proud that it’s still going strong and is expanding. Some of them were aspiring writers, and some were already published. It was my intention, and still is, to encourage people who long to write a book to do so, and achieve their dream. Since the group in Rugby was founded, many of them are now published authors. The group have also published several anthologies of stories and poems.
So I made a few posters, contacted a few local writers and we now have The Guernsey Society of Authors who meet monthly at 7.15 – 8.15 pm on the second Tuesday evening of every month. We get together in the Dorey Room, Guille Alles Library in St. Peter Port. If you would like to make contact with other writers, gain some advice about the publishing world, share your frustrations or just generally take part in ‘writerly’ conversations, then please come along. It’s free, and there’s a coffee/hot chocolate machine in the foyer.
